Just got the new ltd-edition red vinyl seven-inch from Cinco de Gatos, featuring an addictively hypnotic pair of post-punk meditations that recall the insistent rhythms of Mission of Burma and the minimalist guitar drones of the early Skids while radiating an ineffably Midwestern sense of stoicism. “Driving On Redline” is a blur of frozen mornings and empty highways, while “3000 Miles and Counting” conjures up hallucinatory nighttime glimpses of UFOs from a van window. Instrumental countermelodies deftly skitter in and out of the mix, and it’s as easy to get lost in the little musical intricacies of these tracks as it is to get carried away by their propulsive grooves.
